We migrated into a discussion of load testing software

Watirgrid is a load testing platform, more like Jmeter.

Performance Testing Guidance for Web Applications by the Microsoft Patterns & Practices Group was highly recommended.

Jmeter is the only open source tool that anyone in the group had used. Mark and Hugh both used it 4-5 years ago.

Mark Anderson mentioned some commercial performance testing software. I can't remember why, but here is the list:

Neustar Webmetrics actually uses a version of watir for scripting
