Mostly we should be okey with anyone except if there is a set of people that indian govt would not want to be assoiciated with as we work in indian jurisdiction. say with pak etc we might have to put caveat we will not accept such requests.

If we are aspiring to becoming a global community, not being siloed to Indian Government, we would have to keep the membership criteria open, to folks across the globe. The understanding here is to create a society for cybersecurity professionals, undertaking potential future government projects where null involvement is required, further requiring members to participate can be limited to comply with government requirements, IMO

The null Community operates on a decentralized model where participants play essential roles as volunteers, core team members, and board members. While the community does have a membership program, it's important to note that the majority of our resources and activities are accessible to both members and non-members alike.
|
||
## Membership | ||
The null Community offers a membership program that provides additional benefits and opportunities for active participants. Members have the privilege of serving as core team members, volunteers, and potentially as board members. However, it's worth emphasizing that membership is not a prerequisite for engaging in most of the community's activities. |

Are we limiting volunteering for the community only to members? In which case we would have to define what volunteering activities are we referring to

Also, the idea seems a bit counter-intuitive to me, that is if a person is volunteering to spend their time helping the community in anyways, why would we want to have them become a paying member first? To better explain this in an analogy: If you decide to contribute to any OWASP project or volunteer in their meetups/conferences, you don't have to become a member, you are actually given a free membership title due to your volunteering efforts.

Not everyone gets the free membership in current situation also
https://owasp.org/www-policy/legal/bylaws#:~:text=SECTION%204.02%20Qualifications
also this is highly debate topic in OWASP chapters also so this might be something for us to figure out on our own.

I have modified the statement, I think we can live with this for now "Members have the privilege of serving as core team members, and potentially as board members. However, it's worth emphasizing that membership is not a prerequisite for engaging in most of the community's activities."

We strive to keep our community inclusive and open to all individuals and organizations. Non-members are encouraged to participate in projects, attend meetings, join mailing lists, and take part in events. Most of our resources and activities are readily available to everyone, fostering a collaborative and accessible environment.
|
||
## Membership Benefits
While most resources are accessible to non-members, becoming a member of the null Community provides additional benefits such as enhanced involvement in core team activities, increased networking opportunities, and the ability to shape the community's direction through potential board membership. Membership also signifies a deeper commitment and dedication to the community's goals and values. |

This sounds great, however, the only concern that I had raised in one of the other PRs is that we do not have any laid-out definitions about what is the criteria for admission to the core team, board membership, etc. (contributions to the field, work done for the community, etc.) Being a member would make you eligible for it, but is that all it takes?

this is definately something we should expand on. being a paid member IMHO should be the base criteria to be able to vote and or stand in election.

Agree that paid member should be base criteria to be able to vote or stand in election. Also in order to become part of core member and board member they must be a member first. The above statement is a kind of high level view of what a member can be involved in. I have modified it below and will add a section of "criteria for admission to core/board membership" later - https://github.com/null-open-security-community/Community-Management/issues/5#issuecomment-2016339857.

Is this a work in progress, or do we already have mentors in place, I thought, we had a mentor for each study group. Also, currently, the mentors are volunteering and more of helping out the mentees "pro bono", if we start collecting membership fees from participants, do we plan on renumerating the mentors for their time as well?

We need to think about whether we compensate the mentor or not? Or can we just provide them free membership something like that

If this isn't one of the deliverables of null membership at the moment, do we really want to talk about it right now? It then becomes a marketing lead to gain more membership, than listing out direct benefits for members, diluting the existing set of privileges that member prospects might gain

OWASP currently offers free memberships to people contributing to OWASP projects, and working as a chapter leader which makes sense to me. Membership dues should be subsidized for people promulgating null initiatives, as that was also one of the concerns brought up in our previous meetings

that is a conversation to be had after we have finalized on the cost. if the cost is reseaonably low then no point in discounting it. but if its coming out to be big number in indian context then we can think about this. However since we are also talking about international membership. I would also be recommending we do regional pricing so effectively someone becoming a member from USA needs to pay a higher cost them someone from india coz of pay parity.
