this PR was causing some issues, and needs redoing anyway as as part of this ticket : https://trello.com/c/IScKOoaR/1206-remove-database-interactions-that-happen-in-the-filters-in-the-view-and-add-it-to-the-controller
so for now we will revert this and pick up the new ticket later this week
