is not part of POSIX, it belongs to PAM (Pluggable Authentication Module), so it isn't recognized by bash. Whilecosmic-greeter
has PAM support,cosmic-comp
doesn't, so the env variable isn't being set for it. Tho I think it only works on RHEL/Fedora for historic reasons.Meanwhile,
/etc/profile
is sourced by the shell when starting the compositor, so it should work in any distro.
