If I split a novel in many scenes files and each chapter in separated folders it is not possible for example to count the total amount of words of the entire project. I need to go into each file and count sum up the words manually.
Describe the solution you'd like
It would be nice to indicate that a set of folders and files are part of the final book, for example through some metadata file, or project file. A folder metadata file could be very useful for many other things, like folder icons, folder colors etc.
Describe alternatives you've considered
A project file, with all the information about the folders and files.

The idea of not having a project file was why I started this project in the first place, so I would like to find a workaround first.
Although there is something similar to a project file, and that is the possibility of adding a TOC file that dictates the included files in the compile and their order. I could extend exporting to compile a new .md file (instead of .doc or .odt) and then the count for that file would be what you are looking for.
I also like the idea of using metadata to distinguish between novel/story parts.
Another option can be displaying a tree view where you could see word counts based tags on a specific category.
For example, you could see total count for all files tagged with status draft or done. Or, you could see counts for each character (if you create a character category).
There is also an upcoming feature that can completely a file from export, by adding a metadata keyword. This could also be taken into account when computing project word-count. Then, the tree view could show count current file or from all files in the workspace.
Do you think any of this flows would work for you?
I am currently working on a big update (much slower than I would like, but it will be coming.... :) ), but this feature seems nice and I would like to prioritize it and include it (in a way or another) in the upcoming release(s).
