Not necessarily, just a gradual change in xmtp philosophy
Describe the solution to the problem
Expose methods for interacting with users (groupCreation, inboxCreation, sendMessage, etc) that key users based off of xmtp inbox id rather than address.
Describe the uses cases for the feature
XMTP should not tie itself so tightly to Ethereum and as we consider adopting wider usage, we can imagine a time in which we support not only cryptocurrency wallets (adapted early for convenience and prevalence), but could support any arbitrary keypair management software.
This will likely remain in the cryptocurrency space simply due to convenience, but doesn't need to be.
Addressing users by Inbox ID also makes more sense for Convos as we are spending a lot of time thinking about what it means to have an identity within the app and ecosystem, and these identities will not always necessarily be publicly tied to an ethereum account.
