Input clears after selecting from suggestions

I noticed an earlier comment to the opposite effect.... would like user to be able to select multiple items from the suggested drop down, but the drop down folds up and input clears after making the first selection... is this the intended behavior ? Ideas for quick workaround ? Thank you.
