It's not 100% clear which app/task is the active, in focus one.
They're all underlined.
Most only a bit, but one is underlined a bit more.
So it's not totally clear at a glance.
Using the "Taskbar Labels for Windows 11", combined with the "Disable grouping on the taskbar", which has "Pinned items mode" set to "Pinned items remain in place", such that it works a bit like the good ol' 'Quick Launch Toolbar'. So i have my pinned app icons to the left, and the running tasks spread across the task bar. Giving an actually usable, functional task bar, for those that do have a lot of windows, tasks open, to get things done faster.
This setup means that if it's on the taskbar, and not an icon on the left, it is running. That is indicator that it's running!
Can we have another option to have the running indicator hidden, such that only the running app in focus has anything showing?
So it could be transparent when not in focus, or the width of the indicator set to zero. Maybe easy to code?
Then glancing down at the task bar, it is clear, unmistakable, which task is in focus, just by looking for the only underline/indicator that is present.
The Progress indicator Style could remain as it is... OR perhaps make the indicator much more dimmed when not in focus... Again, to make the in-focus task obvious.
