  • Having both Upload Files and Select Files gives one pause. Elsewhere, we combine them Upload/Select Files. But we might just include Upload Files in Select Files, as Select files is the broader concept, by having, once you open it a “Select a file in this workflow” and “Upload a file.”
  • Inconsistent use of capitals, re “Add publication format” vs. “Add DIscussion,” with the former preferred by me at least.
  • “Select Files” may not need its own line, and can be added after the name of the format or after Name.
  • The “Complete” column is actually better named “Status” which matches the Approved or Awaiting Approval better.
  • Instead of “Available” for Catalog what about “Included” and “Not included” or simpler yet “Added” or “Not added,” as it is not available like a book is available but included or added to the public interface of the website.
  • Better yet might be the symmetry of including in the light gray box (with link to entry):
    Format’s catalog entry [ Awaiting approval ] [ Add? ]
    Format’s catalog entry [ Approved] [ Added ]
    with hyperlinks on catalog entry

  • The blue (i) info insert just seems from another era. At the least, could we within the gray box, reduce the spacing above and below the text so it is more like the gray box below. And could we reduce the white space above it so it matches what’s below it?
  • I’m not sure why it appears as the catalog entry for the only format has been approved.

  • Upload/Select files: I'd like to switch to "Add File" throughout if this won't cause any problems.
  • Notifications (the box with the info circle): These are supposed to be alerts that tell the person what to do next. I don't think they do their job very well and they've often left me more confused. I don't know what to do with them, but if we use them, they need to be stand out. If we're adjusting the style so that they blur in with the wall of content we might as well just get rid of themm.

@willinsky, regarding:

The “Complete” column is actually better named “Status” which matches the Approved or Awaiting Approval better.

I disagree -- "status" is one of those words I'm trying to avoid because it doesn't really say anything about the content that appears there. Maybe another option?

I beg to agree -- "status" applies to both degree of completion and availability. This suggests that perhaps the two parallel terms Completion and Availability might be the better titles for the two columns. Another option is Approval and Availability.
Now that I've stared at it for a while I can see how the empty check boxes might raise a question about what to do, that is, whether to try to check them to confirm that there is no catalog entry, etc. (this is an earlier error on my part, having proposed empty check boxes). After rethinking this, I offer the suggestion below -- greatly increasing symmetry and clarity in wording and icon, in my opinion -- with [/] representing the checked box:

Approval [1st column]
Complete Catalog Entry OR [/] Catalog Entry Complete
Approve Format OR [/] Format Approved

Availability [2nd column]
Add to Catalog OR [/] In Catalog
Set Terms OR [/] Available

Regarding the approval/availability discussion, see also... UB-Heidelberg/omp#29

Consulted discussion, and while points differ, I also think my proposal (modified in light of H.'s comments) addresses points about catalog vs. catalog entry, as well, as in the use of (checked) checkboxes, although I may not fully understand the comments.

I think @willinsky's more action-oriented language (Complete X, Add to X) is a bit clearer. @asmecher, should I split the text changes into an issue and assign to OMP 1.2 milestone?

@NateWr, yes, please do.
