A map library, available to all Core Data projects and websites, where users can create new image-based map overlays.

NB: I don't know where this belongs: Core Data? IIIF Cloud CMS?

Creating a map overlay.

  • Select a IIIF Cloud CMS Project.
  • Upload or select a IIIF image from that project.
  • Georeference it using Allmaps (within our application ideally, but maybe on allmaps.org for now if we need to save time)
  • Save web annotations somewhere, and expose the manifest or endpoint.

Using a map overlay

  • Whether in map template config, or via Core Data, allow website owner to select which available map layers to include in the layer picker menu on the map search UI.
  • In place record editor, allow editor to select one or more overlays for that place record.

Questions

  • Performance?
  • Where does this live?
  • How mature/reliable is Allmaps?
  • Should we use the Allmaps server shim, to produce x/y/z maps?
