Definition (free text, with reference(s), please. PubMed ID format is PMID:XXXXXX)
An enteroendocrine cell of the small intestine that secretes Secretin into the bloodstream in response to increased luminal pH. These cells have slim apical processes with pH receptors and chemoreceptors that can detect nutrient levels. They are found scattered throughout the epithelial lining of the small intestine, with highest concentrations in the duodenum and jejunum.
