If there in data is john_main_schedule.txt and john_schedule.txt then the application loads in two users of the same name. This conflicts with the behavior that you cannot create two users with the same name.

This is a good hack that you discovered. Yes you can create main user and another user with the same name but only if you manually add the file into the data folder, which was what i think you did.
The consequence of this is that the app take in an extra user of the same name.
Reason why i am putting NotInScope is because in the UG, we advised for files in the data folder to not be changed because of possibilties like this, and this hack will not be encountered by a typical user that is using the app through CLI.
