Qs about changing output folder

A few questions, I want to know which parameters I should be looking for for the below problems. I experimented with the parameters: base-directory, directory, filename but they didn't seem to do what I expected

1.

I'm currently using this app to download from reddit subreddits. I was trying to find a method in which

subreddits a b and c would go to base-directory/subfolder1/<a b or c respectively>

and

subreddits d e f would go to base-directory/subfolder2/<d e or f respectively> all of which following imgur links and downloading them to their respective places as if they were part of the reddit extractor (so it doesn't make a "imgur" folder and download imgur stuff there)

2.

Was trying to find how to make reddit galleries (reddit posts with multiple images) download into folders deeper than that of single images, but I wasn't able to find how to do that.

3.

The below config puts in the extractor name after the base-directory, how do I not do that?
It also seems to be ignoring the filename section. (it's doing {id} {title}.{extension} i instead)

GenshinImpact is equivalent to subfolder1 from question 1. And "Genshin_Impact" is the subreddit name.

I'm trying to match the behaviour of a different reddit specific downloader. (I want to switch to this project since it can download from other services)

To point 3:

What's with that "Genshin_Impact" key name? It doesn't work that way.
It can't find the directory and filename settings you specified there.

Try this instead:

You have to set "base-directory" outside of the "reddit" section, because it is a global option.

Generally speaking, the resulting location of the download always works like this:
base-directory-setting + directory-setting-of-extractor + filename-setting-of-extractor

That's because the order matters in the directory list: "directory": [ "GenshinImpact", "{category}"]
For the correct order see the example above.

To point 1:

Well, this is basically already the default setting. It should definitely work if you use the example herein above.

subreddits a b and c would go to base-directory/subfolder1/
and
subreddits d e f would go to base-directory/subfolder2/

For reddit, the result would be your-base-directory-path-here/{category}/{subreddit}
(Where {category} = reddit and {subreddit} = the name of the subreddit, obviously)

What do you mean by differentiating between subfolder1 and subfolder2?
You can do that, but this is not something done easily and automatically. Depends on what you mean by subreddits a,b,c compared to d,e,f

Yeah, this depends. Might need a bit tweaking to work it out. A example would help, maybe.
You already have the parent-directory setting for the reddit extractor to true, which is important.
And there are also two other relevant options here:

• parent-metadata
• category-transfer

Without changing any metadata settings here it would use the settings of the "imgur" section of your config file -
if gallery dl handles any link to Imgur, obviously. This is the most straightforward way to do this.
Which is also fine, because if you only care about Imgur in the context of reddit, you can simply change the options to your liking regardless of different preferences if you would use Imgur on its own.

With the subfolder1 and subfolder2 thing, I guess i can just have 2 identical config files with the base-directory changed so instead of 1 config file. The differentiation was supposed to be manually set like I would be able to put in the config files, a,b,c has this directory and d,e,f have this other directory, but having 2 config files does the same thing albeit more janky to use.

I'll try to get the parent directory stuff working.

Is there anyway to make it not add "00" in front of image numbers but add it when the number should be more than 0?
