Exporting point cloud

I'm working on a compute cluster meaning that I won't have access to a display. I would still like to export the point cloud created by TRIPS, similar to what the "save points ply" button does in the viewer. I've been trying to refactor the code to trigger the code that runs when the button is triggered, but unfortunately I don't know the codebase (or c++ for that matter) too well to make this work. Any help/tips?
