I prefer Blank Screen to Turn Off Display and fortunately, it is easy to get Blank Screen to work with the latest versions of GNOME Shell, in both Wayland and X. Would you please release a new version of Blank Screen which makes this one change?

Simply have it run:

gnome-screensaver-command --activate

at line 14 of extension.js. Currently it uses xset which Wayland doesn't understand. However, gnome-screensaver-command works for both. The only caveat is that some people might not have gnome-screensaver installed. (apt install gnome-screensaver in Debian and Ubuntu.)

Thanks!

Here's a dbus-send command said to work with both X11 and Wayland, which (I assume) doesn't require separate installation. Works well for me, though I've only tested it on Ubuntu 23.04 with Wayland.

dbus-send --session --dest=org.gnome.ScreenSaver --type=method_call \
          /org/gnome/ScreenSaver org.gnome.ScreenSaver.SetActive boolean:true

Unfortunately replacing the command is no longer enough to get this extension working, since the Gnome Shell Extension's Gnome Javascript (GJS) style has evolved.
