Who is requesting this?
@laurabrenskelle on behalf of @ioos/marine-life
What is being requested?
Document the purposes and appropriate user communities of the various IOOS ATN-related GitHub repositories. These include: https://github.com/ioos/atn-dac, https://github.com/ioos/atn-docs, https://github.com/ioos/ioos-atn-data.
What is the requested deadline and why?
At the latest 12-31-2024. This clarity will help advance the use of these repositories moving forward into 2025.
What is the current status quo (i.e., what happens if this does not get done)?
There are three different ATN GitHub repositories. It is unclear what activities belong in each repository and where users should go to contribute/find certain information of interest. It is also unclear where partners like Axiom should be sharing their source code and documentation.
What indicates this is done (i.e., how do we know this is complete)?
Documentation is publicly available describing the different purposes and user communities for the three different ATN GitHub repositories. This could be in the MLDN GitHub documentation somewhere, or in one of the ATN repositories if there is an appropriate place.
The readme files should also be updated to clarify the use cases/users for the different repositories.
Provide a description or any other important information.
Note: https://github.com/ioos/atn-dac-landing was deprecated/archived in 2018 and is no longer active.
