🔥 Your Pitch

The electrical grid is a massive and convoluted circuit that is critical to the nation. Power Systems Engineers are tasked with the job to monitor and analyse this massive system to ensure that faults are dealt with swiftly and effectively as well analyse the grid and forecast load changes to ensure load and generation match with the size of the grid constantly increasing. Simulating the grid on a software like ETap is crucial in this process of analysis. To simulate this system data needs to collected from the field and engineers spend days to weeks acquiring and verifying the data. GPS and GIS data is crucial to the domain but it takes a considerable amount of time to collect this data. This project aims to streamline this process for engineers on the field in order to get field data back to the Systems Studies team to proceed.
The device has an IMU sensor to measure the change in direction of the person moving and with the distance traveled between the two points, the subsequent coordinates can be calculated. With the help of a keypad, all equipment details like transformer, generator, load and transmission line nameplate details can be enter and logged in this device. The device using a Raspberry Pi can be remotely accessed to collect this data for further analysis by the Power Systems Studies team. This reduces the time and cost to collect field data drastically.

🔦 Any other specific thing you want to highlight?

This project stems from personal experience of collecting data near my office which took about 2 hours for 2 elements 10m apart. With this device, the time to collect the same data was about 10mins.
