Users do not have visibility into what items are currently in their cart, which is a problem if you leave and come back later to resume shopping but can't remember what you've already added.

Additionally, if a user accidentally added something to their cart, they will certainly be surprised during checkout. So instead of immediately starting the checkout process, they will have to first modify their order. One could assume this sidetrack could negatively affect conversions.
