Best guess is something funny with the colour normalisation - srgb vs linear.
Would try submitting linear rgb to openxr, but at least on steamvr only srgb is supported for 8-bit swapchain images, despite the spec saying both srgb and linear should be supported by runtimes..
It's a bit subtle but there's a distinct difference in lighting between desktop / vr views, with vr being a lot brighter..
