Better indicator that you are required to draw a box on the canvas #258

When creating an annotation you are required to first hit "create annotation" and then drag to draw a box around the area. There is no clear visual indicator of hint that you should be doing this.

Need a message, cursor change or some other messaging to make it easier for new users to understand the process for adding new annotations

Hi @stephenwf Stephen here are some ideas for this, do you think there is one we can use?

  • Animated icon with tooltip the first time(s) user opens the ME
  • Info banner on top of the right panel
  • Plus icon labels shown on hover (the embedded icons for view options and annotations on the canvas panel)

Looks good @lord-groundhog, let's do it.

When the user clicks on the "box" and starts drawing, is there somewhere we can add a message to help the user know they can start drawing the box?

Sounds good @stephenwf , thank you.
We would need additional commands. Would it be feasible? (this goes back to an earlier conversation on drawing areas). In principle you would open the fan menu, select draw area so its icon is shown as selected, and that would enable edit mode.

The examples of edit area mode I can think of offer a few additional options for edit mode.

From that earlier conversation: is undo/redo something ME users would need?

Also, would we agree that the option C on this panel is the simplest for this interaction?
