Arrow-Keys

⬆️↗️➡️↘️⬇️↙️⬅️↖️

Quite simply, I do believe there should be a mode - similar to uppercase/lowercase mode - where I can use all arrow keys.

I see you have not utilized the spacebar area as to include up/down arrow presses like MessagEase - maybe that is for the best(still worth an option toggle..) as it avoids two more mis-presses. I do think a dedicated arrow-keys situation is vital - if even just to use terminals like Termux to move through command history - certainly gaming would be entirely opened up though.

I do not like opening up another keyboard in order to have arrow-key functionality.

I also think this could be done by letting this "mode" simply be a shortcut that switches to "another keyboard/layout"(and back again? Check out ReWASD for inspiration on advanced shortcuttery[esp. for Azeron Cyborg device, pushes it to limits).
The "other keyboard" could just be a blank space where we choose our own keys for everything, and thus I can put my "Up, Down, Left, Right" in a few different configurations - as the one you choose may still urge minor tweaks.

For example I think I'd prefer a + cross of arrows, where N, E, H, & R lay in the ANIHORTES. However, just putting the directionals in "one" key might also be nifty, or perhaps mimic a typical keyboard layout where the down arrow is lifted up between left & right - less reach.

--- Anyhow I forgot this is open source, perhaps if I figure things out I can actually contribute. Though, feel free to just get it done if you want xD muahahhh <333

This doesn't need a whole new mode IMO. They could be added to the 5 or 0 key on the common numeric layout.

Ohh hexadecimal yes ~ I do actually prefer the idea of it being on one.
The urge for a big num-pad-style arrow system remains - but practical usage, yes, it likely will "feel" better on one.

Honestly I have many ideas now >.< as I would likely enjoy it in all sorts of sensical & odd ways:

  • 5, 6, 8, 9, 0, or even the smaller space key in numeric layout.
  • More hold & toggle-based ideas, like holding a left-most key to unlock the arrows. Or, hold left-side of spacebar, and right side allows up & down.
  • A check-mark style "complex" symbol, similar to MessageEase where you draw large strokes, in this case from Smileyface, down to center(o/5) and then in the direction.
  • A floating plugin-like gamepad of sorts that you can adjust or drag around, acting as a virtual joystick - perhaps better as a separate project or supplementary gadget.

Alas, many of these might be silly, heavy, too different, or so on ~ I hope they bring inspiration regardless.
What you mentioned makes the most sense :3 though if 5 I might be sad in case people are used to ¬.¬ ¬¬¬¬ heheh(I recently saw it and was happy, ¬.¬ makes ¬.¬ me want ¬.¬ to use it all the time now ^.^.
Anyhow, we/you/someone shall figure it out!! Thank you for saving this typing experience anyhow ~ I felt even more great improvements over the last months. Truly good skill & choices so far.
