WordPress 6.4 RC2 is now ready for download and testing!

The WordPress 6.4 release is brought to you by an underrepresented gender release squad to increase participation of and partnership with those who identify as gender-underrepresented in the WordPress open-source project.

wp core update --version=6.4-rc2

Remember to Test and Report, and look for Bugs.

Just a few more days till the release of WordPress 6.4 and the team already prepared the Field Guide for everyone.

The Field Guide summarizes all changes and how to be prepared for them.

• Improvements to Object Caching in WordPress 6.4: The Performance team has introduced several enhancements centered around object caching, leading to better handling of filters, reduced database queries, and improved overall system efficiency.
• Image loading optimization enhancements in 6.4: Loading optimization attributes are those such as loading="lazy" or fetchpriority="high", which can be added to certain HTML tags to optimize loading performance in the browser.

··· WP-CLI 2.9.0 ···

The v2.9.0 release of WP-CLI will be released soon. You can already start testing by updating your WP-CLI version to the nightly build. Please make sure to provide feedback to the #cli team.

In addition to numerous bug fixes and enhancements, this release is also expected to address the last known compatibility issues with PHP 8.2 and the upcoming WordPress 6.4 version.

Save the date! WP-CLI Hack Day on Friday, November 10th. On 🗓 Friday, 10th November 2023 an official kick off the WP-CLI Hack Day at 🕗 0800 UTC.

We're nearing the end of the year 2023. This means it the time of the year again to think about the Hosting Team Reps for the next year. In the upcoming weeks, we will open the call for nominees, followed by the voting process for the team reps. More information about the team reps is documented on make.wordpress.org

We will base the calling on this Team Reps document. So we can modify the actual proposal if needed.

State of the Word 2023 – Save the Date

It’s time to save the date, December 11, 2023, for this year’s State of the Word!

State of the Word is the annual keynote address delivered by the WordPress project’s co-founder, Matt Mullenweg. Every year, the event shares reflections on the project’s progress and aspirations for the future of open source.

For the first time, State of the Word will take place outside North America–this time with the Spanish community in Madrid, Spain. The event will be live-streamed to WordPress enthusiasts around the globe via WordPress.org social media platforms.
