Agenda
📓 ··· Here is the agenda for this meeting ···
WordPress Community
Hosting Team Time
Open Floor
Would anyone like to add to or change any items on the agenda?
OK, let’s get started with the WordPress Community news.
WordPress Community
:wordpress: ··· WordPress 6.2 Releases ···
WordPress 6.2 "Dolphy" was launched 2023.03-29, after a silent RC5.
This latest version of WordPress reimagines the site editing experience, introduces more ways to style sites, and offers a new distraction-free way to write. Discover improvements that give more control and freedom to express creative vision. There's something for everyone, whether you're a content creator, developer, site builder, or designer.
:wordpress: ··· The Interactivity API ···
Gutenberg has evolved a lot over the past few years, though most of the improvements have focused on the block developer experience within the block editor. And now, the Interactivity API, which aims to be a standard way to allow developers to add interactivity to the frontend of their blocks.
There is a great demo on what that API can do at wpmovies.dev.
:plugins: ··· Plugin Dependencies ···
Plugin Dependencies
This plugin may be integrated in WordPress 6.3, so it's a good time to check them and make suggestions.
Parses a 'Requires Plugins' header and adds a Dependencies tab in the plugin install page. If a requiring plugin does not have all its dependencies installed and active, it will not activate.
:plugins: ··· Preferred Languages ···
Preferred Languages 2.0 is here and may be integrated in WordPress 6.3, so it's a good time to check them and make suggestions.
This feature project aims to change that by letting users choose multiple languages for displaying WordPress in. That way, you can set some sort of "fallback chain" where WordPress tries to load translations in your preferred order.
:wordpress: ··· Local WordPress development ···
There is a post at the WordPress Developer Blog about a quick and easy local WordPress development with wp-env.
wp-env enables to quickly spin up an almost instant WordPress environment from the command line, from whichever directory your project happens to be in, with zero configuration.
:polyglots: ··· ChatGPT and DeepL in the Translation Memory ···
The Polyglots Team are testing ChatGPT and DeepL, utilizing their AI translation services, as helpers to improve the translator's work. There is an update to enable them at translate.wordpress.org. This experimental feature requires an API key for it to be enabled and will not be visible until the keys are added.
Ok, let’s move on to Hosting Team time.
Hosting Team Time!
☁️ ··· Hosting Community Team channel ···
The Team Reps we've been talking about proposing changing the #hosting-community channel to just #hosting channel. Sounds good to you?
You can vote on an open discussion, and leave the comments as you wish. We will leave the voting open until May 2nd, so we can discuss the results in May 3rd meetings.
VOTE HERE: #136
☁️ ··· Caching with WordPress ···
@jonny Harris reached out to the team last week to check about caching mechanisms used by WordPress Hosts. There is already a core ticket (https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/58000#ticket) with the goal to also cover Redis caching in the unit tests. If you're using an object caching mechanism in your infrastructure, make sure to check out his post and ticket.

📕 ··· Advanced Administration Handbook ···
We have good news about the project. As you may know, the WordPress Advanced Administration Handbook started as a collabaration with the Documentation Team, and has been lead by the Hosting Team.
Although it is not fully "linked" from the main page, it's online and available to access to anybody.
So, welcome to the WordPress Advanced Administration Handbook.
The project is fully synced with the GitHub repo, so when changes are made, it will be reflected in the WordPress site.
Currently, everything pending to do is in the Issues part. A lot of "documentation + enhancement" tickets, and also some "documentation + enhancement + good first issue" for the Contributor Day. Remember, there is a page about the Contributor Day in the Handbook.
☁️ ··· Host Test Runners ···
You may have heard of Host Test Results, a community-led project that helps WordPress users find the best hosts for their sites. Host Test Results provides a comprehensive list of hosting providers and detailed information about each host's performance and reliability.
We want to make sure that as many hosts as possible are included in the Host Test Results database, so that WordPress users and the #core team can benefit from this valuable resource. That's why we're asking you to check if your host is already supporting Host Test Results, and to add your host if it still needs to be included.
To check if your hoster is already supporting Host Test Results, visit the website (https://make.wordpress.org/hosting/test-results/) and search for your host's name. If your host is already included, great! You can use the information provided to make sure that you're getting the best possible performance and reliability from your site.
If your host isn't included, don't worry, you can still help! You can just follow the instructions on the website to add your host to the database. It's quick and easy, and you'll be helping other WordPress users find the best hosts for their sites. However, if your host has not received reports in the last 25 revisions, we encourage you to check back with them.
🗓️ ··· Next events / Contributor Day ···
Heads up, some events are coming down the pipeline along with some Contributor Days to participate in:
Is anyone going to a WordCamp and wants to lead a Hosting Table?
