Hi,
Just launched RAFT WSL on Microsoft Store and started it on W11 23H2.
Application hangs with "Getting Distros..."
image

What I've done:

  • verify my Internet connection
  • Delete and reinstall App from Microsoft Store
  • wsl --shutdown
  • remove WSL completely - restart my computer - re-download WSL from Microsoft Store

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Philippe

Hello,

If it is the first launch, please wait at least 2 minutes before closing it, depending on how many distros you have, it may take time.

If the issue persist, please help us filling this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WTKK629

Also, if you can when experiencing the behavior. Please go to the folder "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\WhitewaterFoundry.Raft-WSL_r1wwvvmhjq692\LocalState\logs" open the file commands-logCURRENTDATE and copy its content here. Check if you have any private information and change or delete it (like your distro names, just in case)

We are trying to find the cause.

Thank you for your help.

PS After closing the app and submitting the logs I reopened the app and now it's working!

I had the same problem. downloaded from store and it is stuck on getting distros and spinning.

Here is the log file.

commands-log20240114.txt

also, while it was trying to load the distros, I tried typing wsl at a command prompt it just hangs. So I closed raft, and now I can type wsl on the command line and get into my distro.

So while RAFT is running, I basically can't type wsl on a command line and get anything. If I close RAFT, wsl starts working again.

It now works. What I did this time was type WSL first on the command line so I was connected to a distribution. Then I started RAFT and it worked.

here is the updated file after the successful start:

I downloaded to a second Windows 11 machine. EXACT Same thing happened... continually spinning on getting Distros. Killed it.

Restarted it and voila, like magic all the distros are listed.

Also, the new download says Subscription is trial , but I thought I paid for it on my other machine, but I could be wrong. What is it tied to?

It is tied to your Microsoft account. It shiuld work on another machine without issues. Try restarting it and your pc. Windows sometimes takes time to obtain all the licenses associated with an account in a new installation.

I have been unable to get Raft WSL working on this computer at all since installing from the Microsoft Store. Stopping and restarting doesn't help. I have already filled out and submitted the survey but haven't received any kind of acknowledgement or feedback. I am adding the latest log file here for reference. commands-log20240305.txt

Hello @rclilly ,

We have been reading and analyzing all the data you sent. For now, we have received seven survey submissions. And sadly, they don't have a clear pattern. The vast majority look like corporate installations, suggesting that Raft got stuck due to some enterprise policy blocking, such as store access. But one of the answers lists Windows Home, so this theory doesn't make sense.

Of course, the real problem is that we cannot reproduce the error and must prepare special versions for you to test. This is what we are doing. The good thing is that everyone with the problem has the same log entries, and we can triangulate where the stuck is happening.

Thank you for your patience,

Hello,

The ones that filled the survey and put their Microsoft Account email should receive today a new Raft version (24.3.0) with a change where we suspect the behavior is happening. Please check if the problem is gone.

Best Regards,
Carlos

Can you provide a download link? I have the same problem.

No I cannot, this application is only distributed for now, only, via the Store.

Please, fill the survey at the top of this issue and put your Microsoft account email. Then you'll be added to a list that enables Microsoft Store to give you the special version mentioned above.

Thank you

@wgetnz All the emails received in recent survey answers were added to the list. You will soon receive the updated version.

Hello, I updated the latest update, but the error still exists. If it is convenient for you, I can provide a remote environment for you to debug.

Hello,

We released the public version 24.4.5 and expect it to solve the problem. Please test it. We need the feedback because we still cannot reproduce the error.

@crramirez I installed the latest version from the Microsoft Store and it immediately opened and shows both installed and available distros. It looks like you solved the issue!
