Checklist

  • I made sure that there are no existing issues - open or closed - which I could contribute my information to.
  • I have read the FAQ and my problem isn't listed.
  • I'm aware that this is a request for NewPipe itself and that requests for adding a new service need to be made at NewPipeExtractor.
  • I have taken the time to fill in all the required details. I understand that the feature request will be dismissed otherwise.
  • This issue contains only one feature request.
  • I have read and understood the contribution guidelines.

Feature description

I would like an option to play opus audio track when listening audio in the background. I am able to select opus 160 when downloading audio only and when I play this file in an external media player the audio of these files is of much higher quality then when playing a video in newpipe directly. Even when selecting highest quality video the audio still is not the same.

An option to switch to opus 160 for music playing in the background would be great.

Image

Why do you want this feature?

Because the current audio played in newpipe is of lower quality and especially with music you can hear the compression.

Try changing Settings > Video and audio > Default audio format > change to WebM
and keeping Limit resolution when using mobile data to Off, app should stream audio opus at 160kbps.

There is no mp3 audio, it is m4a.

I tried this didn't seem to work, at least not opus 160. Try downloading opus 160 and play it in vlc for example. Then play the same track with newpipe. You can clearly hear a big difference.

I will try this again to be sure and report back.

Ok i tried this again and this works. I had changed the default audio format to WebM but the limit resolution option was still on.

Still i think an option to select the audio track just like the video resolution would be a nice addition.

I will close this for now.

Then I think #1583 does cover your demand.
