Dongle Update App

These are some notes about the web app hosted at 192.168.50.2 by the dongle.

Findings

JavaScript is compiled using Webpack (no surprise).

Bundle seems to include CSS and some loading code at the very end. Weird since the CSS is also available as a separate file. No frameworks or libraries that seem obvious to me.

There is a server component to this in the cgi-bin/ folder, but those files are compiled binaries and I don't know what to make of them. That said, a lot of the data seems to map to various scripts and binaries found in the firmware, so it might not be too hard to replicate it.

Dongle settings are saved as files under /etc, such as BackgroundMode, MediaQuality

Available Settings

AutoConn

Automatically attempt to connect to paired devices.

Values: 0 to disable, 1 to enable

Default: 1

BgMode

Startup without any notification screens until CarPlay is active.

Values: 0 to disable, 1 to enable

Default: 0

DisplaySize

Values:

Default: 0

EchoDelay

Values: Any number from 0 to 2000

Default: 250

FrameRate

Limit the frame rate of the CarPlay encoded video.

Values: Any number from 0 to 60

Default: 0

GPS

Enables GPS via CarPlay. When enabled, the adapter passes the GPS coordinates received from the head unit via the car's GPS antenna in order to improve positioning, especially when the iPhone is hidden away, lacking a clear line-of-sight view to the satellites. This is not a mandatory feature for wired CarPlay, so it may not be supported by cars with wired CarPlay only (probably only those with a navigation system built-in).

Values: 0 to disable, 1 to enable

Default: 0

ImageMode

Values:

MediaDelay

Media delay. The greater the delay, the less the audio stutters. The smaller the delay, the better music and album art/pictures will sync.

Values: Any number from 300 to 2000

Default: 1000

SaveLog

Values: 0 to disable, 1 to enable

Default: 1

SoundQuality

Toggle between CD and DVD sound quality. CD fixes static/playback issues with some cars. DVD has better sound quality.

Values: 0 for CD, 1 for DVD

Default: 1

StartDelay

Start-up delay. If you set the setting to 5, the adapter will start the system after 5 seconds when connected to the vehicle's USB port. (If a vehicle system does not recognize the adapter or the adapter only works to plug it in again, configure this setting parameter.

Values: Any number from 0 to 30

Default: 0

SyncMode

Synchronization mode. Normal resolve issues with the instrument panel display. Compatible fixes a problem with certain vehicles not connecting to the dongle.

Values: 0 for Normal, 1 for Compatible

Default: 0

UMode

Values: 0 to disable, 1 to enable

Default: 0

Internationalization

_lang_js__WEBPACK_IMPORTED_MODULE_1__ is for translation strings. All the strings are in a chunk early on in the file; Webpack seems to have uglified them to single and double letter variable names.

Each string is a tuple of format:

type Translation = [ chinese: string, taiwanese: string, english: string ];

Frontend makes a bunch of requests to the device's HTTP server:
