If qubes will be :

  1. moving to the "Qubes Air" plan ( https://www.qubes-os.org/news/2018/01/22/qubes-air/ ),
    and
  2. moving to wayland ( Use Wayland instead of X11 to increase performance and improve security #3366 )

Then there is a little known attempt to do wayland forwarding over ssh (just like X11 forwarding) called waypipe at: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mstoeckl/waypipe/

It might be useful as a starting point for the graphical network transparency part of "hosting each qube (or groups of them) on a physically distinct computer" (I.E. when the qubes are on a physically distinct qube then the GUI VM)

Based on our issue tracking guidelines, this does not appear to be suitable for qubes-issues. We ask that you please post this on the Qubes Forum or one of the mailing lists instead. If, after reading our issue tracking guidelines, you believe we are mistaken, please leave a brief comment explaining why. We'll be happy to take another look, and, if appropriate, reopen this issue. Thank you for your understanding.
