FreeCAD Development Blog - Deprecate repository in favor of current one #1
Comments
Thanks for the initiative. Speaking generally, I am in favor of cleanup since these efforts failed to find much traction. |
Ok, what do you recommend for the next steps ? By the way, just for fun to compare: Blender public repos are 40 (27 for infrastructure, 13 for the software, not counting the Studio) with quite a team of paid staff. FreeCAD has 46 but way fewer people to take care of it. Some sweeping up doesn't seem superfluous =P |
Are you expecting me to do something? I'm not sure we fully agreed on the next moves to be made =P Thanks ! |
I'm also in favour of killing it. It has only two posts and indeed some cleaning of older obsolete repos would do some good... |
Hi @yorikvanhavre ! Great you're both for it too ! So closing this issue and let any of you do the killing/archiving thing =D |
Let's leave this open so we don't forget about it... @kkremitzki may I assign this to you? |
Sure. I was thinking it should be enough to just record the page via the Internet Archive and delete the repo, but I need to take a few moments to check that no other cleanup steps are required. |
Glad to know it's been decided to deprecate the page completely. Any progress so far? It's still up and running. |
Hi there !
As version 1.0 of FreeCAD is coming along nicely, it looks like a good opportunity to clean, focus and make FreeCAD's ecosystem point of entries consistent and up-to-date.
This repo "freecad.github.io" and its brother "FreeCAD-blog" is still alive and accessible, but not exposed on FreeCAD's main website and hasn't been updated in 5 years soon.
The new FreeCAD Blog/News opened in August 2022 is a much better replacement thriving with regular publications on the current development, use cases and beyond.
Why not archive or totally remove these 2 repos ?
Secondly, it looks like the new Blog/News platform uses Wordpress. Is there an option to make it accessible here like some other FreeCAD websites (main one, FPA, Dev Handbook, etc.) to be customized, updated and translated by motivated contributors ?
I'm personally interested in making the various platforms consistent and more user-friendly. If the maintainers are willing too, I can discuss it with the UI/UX team and we can come up with a transition plan.
Thanks !
@kkremitzki @yorikvanhavre
