Why ACAP Computer Vision is being deprecated? #205

All over the documentation there is a notice that the way that was used in these samples to create ML apps is being deprecated: https://www.axis.com/developer-community/news/acap-12

I understand that the native SDK is the recommended way, but for modern ML models that would be very cumbersome. Is there any rationale that Axis can share with the community so that we understand why this is being deprecated? Or am I missing something?

Thank you for your question. This is a valid concern.

The decision to deprecate container support was made to streamline the development experience on Axis devices, as detailed in our official statement here: Simplifying your application development with the enhanced ACAP SDK

While existing products with container support will continue to be supported until the end of 2031 (aligning with the end of AXIS OS 2026 LTS), new products released after AXIS OS 12.0 will not include container support. This means that container-based applications will have a progressively smaller device base to run on.

Best regards,
Johan
